Our Method

Category Foresight

We form and back companies expanding productive capacity and strengthening strategic resilience.

Category Foresight is Epoch’s discipline for identifying important new markets before they are widely understood. We study what technology makes possible, what changing requirements make necessary, and how those forces create demand for new capabilities.

That research defines what a company must build, whom it must serve and the capabilities it needs to compete.

Investment judgment

Structural Mispricing

Category Foresight develops conviction in a market. A consequential category, a strong company, and an attractive investment require separate judgments.

We seek Structural Mispricing where our research supports greater potential than consensus has priced in. We assess that potential against price, risk, time and the capital required to reach it.

We form companies.

Where our research identifies the need for a new company, we work with founders to form it. Our involvement can begin before incorporation: defining the product, bringing together technical talent, connecting with customers and assembling early capital.

We back companies.

We invest in founders building companies that can deliver these capabilities. We develop an independent view of the market, assess the company’s ability to serve it, and work through the technical, commercial and financing requirements ahead.

We stay involved.

Research continues as the company develops. We work with founders on product direction, recruiting, customer relationships, narrative development and financing.

Founders lead their companies; Epoch works alongside them.
